Walking the Speyside Way Trail- Eastern most point of my journey

Updated: Jun 15, 2018

Today we will see if I’ve broken anything with a test walk of 19 miles without a pack between Granton-on-Spey and Aviemore along the Speyside Way Trail. This will be the furthest East I will be on my trip.

Feel pretty good - amazingly.

Took the bus to Granton-on-Spey to save some time. Bus was totally empty. Saw some shaggy local highland cows and some sheep that seemed to have been partly shorn, so pretty funny looking with no hair above the waist.

Groton-on-Spay was developed several hundred years ago and wasn’t an immediate success. Eventually, started to take hold.

Amongst other things, has an olde world high street with charming old buildings, a local history museum - unimpressive - and had a military base nearby. Found an open Walker’s short bread store, and started back.

Weather was totally variable and changed every 5 minutes with the exception of the wind which was pretty much constant, only the degree of wind speed changed - good to keep the bugs down.

Nice walk - 11 miles to Boat of Garten which is known as the Osprey City and has an osprey center nearby which I didn’t go to.

Went to the Boat Restaurant for cream tea which was unimpressive - old dry scones and whipped cream instead of clotted cream and store bought jam.

Overall along the walk each breath is delicious with occasional surprises of licorice, heather, lilac, wet earth, pine, and bog smell

Went to the Cairngorm Hotel for some local whisky and ended up with something they have made for them -Cairngorm Single Malt - was good.
