Watching for Nessie, Eating Fried Mars Bars

June 21 - The Longest Day. Mom, I miss you. The day started out really well due to a wonderful breakfast - porridge made with milk, well done sausages, poached egg, toast, mushrooms, tea, milk - surprised I could move. Left a bit late and was a slow start, but finally started up the high road from Invermoreston to Drumnadrochit - 13.74 miles. The way up was hard, but interesting. There were trees fallen across the trail and had to walk around them - couldn’t go above or below. Luckily, there was a way around, but it was very boggy and I almost fell into the mud.

The trail instructions had an error, but managed to find my way anyway. That way included a troll bridge which was pretty cool.

Scottish forestry was at it again and there were areas with a lot of tree stumps; however, the view made up for it.

The way up to the view was VERY steep, but luckily there was just one main part of steepness, the rest was reasonable. The view was the reward and worth the effort.

Weather was wonderful - sunny and windy - no bugs.

Along the way I saw a mounted group which was a nice change.

Didn‘t see the Loch Ness monster.

Best part of the day - finally found a fried Mars Bar after searching 10 years. It was surprisingly good!

Since it almost never gets dark here this time of year, was able to walk to see the Urqahart Castle ruins which was interesting, even if it was too late to get on the grounds.
