Markina to Gernika - October 9

October 9, 2025 - Walk 23 km to Gernika.

We continued to stay inland on our way to Gernika. The weather was again quite good for most of the way, until we actually entered Gernika and it started to rain. We got picked up to be taken to the hotel Casa Rural Astobieta Gernika which was off trail again.

Breakfast was pretty traditional.

We stopped for a burger at lunch time and forgot to tell them not to add an egg = yuck.

When we left we stopped at a church that was built on a megalithic dolman - very cool.

We saw some beautiful houses decked out with flowers. I also learned how Kiwi fruit grows.

This "hotel" was more hostel like - no photos, maybe I've mis-filed them. It did not offer dinner, so we stopped for Chinese food in town before calling our ride.
